Why I’ve Used Jane Iredale Mineral Makeup for Over 10 Years

I’ve been using Jane Iredale mineral makeup for over 10 years, and it’s still one of the makeup lines I recommend most often.

My own skin is acne prone, so I’ve always been particular about the makeup I use. I want coverage, but I also don’t want to feel like I’m undoing everything I’m doing with my skincare.

That’s originally what drew me to Jane Iredale.

The line was created with skin in mind, and many of the products use mineral ingredients such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. Over the years, I’ve used several products from the line, but the PurePressed Base Mineral Foundation continues to be one of my favourites.

Here’s why.

Why I Like Mineral Makeup

One of the biggest reasons I recommend mineral makeup is that it can be a great option for people who are particular about what they put on their skin.

This is especially important if you’re acne prone, sensitive or regularly investing in professional skin treatments.

Makeup should give you the coverage and finish you want without feeling excessively heavy on the skin.

Jane Iredale has always checked those boxes for me.

A Great Option for Acne Prone Skin

Having dealt with acne prone skin myself, I know how frustrating it can be to find makeup that provides enough coverage without feeling thick or heavy.

This is one of the main reasons I started using Jane Iredale and why I’ve continued using it for so long.

Their mineral makeup gives me the coverage I want while still feeling lightweight on my skin. The PurePressed Base in particular can be built up in areas where you want more coverage without having to apply a heavy layer of foundation everywhere.

If you struggle with breakouts, I always recommend paying attention to the entire formulation of your makeup rather than assuming a product is good or bad simply because it is labelled mineral.

Sensitive and Redness Prone Skin

Mineral makeup can also be a great option for people with sensitive or redness prone skin.

Ingredients such as zinc oxide are commonly used in mineral formulas, and Jane Iredale offers products designed with sensitive skin in mind.

This can be especially helpful when you want coverage for redness without applying several heavy layers of makeup.

Of course, sensitive skin is very individual. What works beautifully for one person may not work for another, so I still recommend choosing your products based on your own skin.

Mineral SPF

Another feature I like about some Jane Iredale products is the inclusion of mineral sunscreen ingredients such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.

For example, the PurePressed Base Mineral Foundation includes SPF protection.

That being said, I would never rely on makeup as my only sunscreen.

It can be a nice additional layer of protection, but I still recommend applying a proper broad spectrum sunscreen as part of your morning skincare routine.

Think of the SPF in your makeup as an added bonus rather than your primary sun protection.

My Favourite: PurePressed Base Mineral Foundation

If I had to choose one Jane Iredale product that I’ve consistently come back to, it would be the PurePressed Base Mineral Foundation.

I’ve used it for over 10 years.

What I like most about it is the coverage. You can apply a light layer when you want something natural or build it in areas where you want more coverage.

For someone like me who has dealt with acne prone skin, that flexibility is important. I don’t necessarily want a heavy full coverage foundation all over my face just because I have one or two areas I want to cover.

The formula contains mineral ingredients including zinc oxide and titanium dioxide and gives the skin a natural looking finish.

It’s one of those products I’ve continued to come back to year after year.

Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide

If you look at mineral makeup, you’ll often see zinc oxide and titanium dioxide listed in the ingredients.

Both are mineral UV filters that are also commonly used in sunscreen formulations.

Zinc oxide in particular tends to work well in products designed with sensitive skin in mind.

These ingredients are part of what initially interested me in mineral makeup, but the formulation as a whole is ultimately what matters.

A product being labelled “mineral” doesn’t automatically mean it will be perfect for every skin type.

Makeup Is Still Part of Your Skin Routine

We spend so much time talking about cleansers, serums, moisturizers and treatments that sometimes we forget about the products sitting on our skin for most of the day.

Your makeup is part of that equation too.

I don’t believe you need to stop wearing makeup to have healthy skin. I wear it myself. I simply think it’s worth being selective about the products you use, especially if you’re acne prone, sensitive or investing a lot into improving your skin.

After more than 10 years of using Jane Iredale, it’s still a makeup line I continue to use and recommend, with the PurePressed Base Mineral Foundation remaining one of my personal favourites.

I’ll be sharing more of the makeup and skincare products I’ve personally used and recommend here on The Skin Instructor.
